From Raging Bull NT thread on Nortel discontinuing access products. NT is getting out of DSL.

" If anyone believes Succession will be ready before 3 years they are seriously mistaken. Why
would any company especially, CLECs buy a DMS switch from Nortel now that they no longer
control the access portion of the network? The ILECs were also buying a significant amount of
NGDLCs as well to expand their residential and rural networks.
CLECs could seamlessly flow through provision their voice and data circuits via the Nortel
access platforms as they were all integrated and managed under Preside and their inhouse
circuit provisioning systems. That capability is gone now, since they will have to put in a
different box. They will have to develop in-house solutions and any current in-house solutions
will have to be reshaped to handle another NGDLC (like Alcatel, Lucent, etc.)

Nortel CLEC customers just got hosed big time. That is where the growth for Nortel was.

Nortel is obviously in big trouble. I personally did a technology review of their LMDS platform
and it totally sucks and I am responsible for all their access and optical transport
technology(DWDM, platforms) at my company. I can't believe they chopped their access
product line without getting out of LMDS first.

Alcatel will be waiting in the wings, what a gift horse. "

Sell I say, buy Alcatel.
