John

Intel's record in deliberately crippling systems that technically can run much faster is clear.

Eg : back to the 486SX days when the die was identical to a 486DX, more recently when there is no actual technical reason why a Celeron cannot use a PC133 FSB, and now, to supporting PC1600 when PC2100 and PC2700 are available.

As a business decision, it is understandable. With all the celeron sales cannibalizing the PII's back then, it would be scary if celerons ran at comparable speeds to PIIs (and xeon!) speed. <g>
