Peter, sure is quiet here. Agreed, $1.5 billion is way low, but the "sources" didn't say that was the price, just that a deal would be "more than" that. Anyway, I'd have to pass (to the extent of my votes) on a deal with TRLY for anything less than 4 shares of it (assume TRLY falls significantly on a stock deal) and I'd either short it or just sell ELNK once a deal was announced. Of course, they could make it a part cash deal.
No, I doubt ELNK will sell to TRLY. If we get sold at all, it should be to someone much stronger. Personally, I think the best deal would be for ELNK to merge with a spun-off MSN. That would be a strong company on its own. Other strong suitors? WCOM would be good and their stock is a bargain right now - has its own upside on top of ELNK's. It would also make sense for YHOO to buy it, but I wouldn't want to hold their stock much more than I'd want TRLY.
Well, that's fun and all - speculating on potential bidders. I won't hold my breath waiting for an announcement. Lots more reasons to wait to sell out anyway. The price will only get better as ELNK continues to execute. Besides, my holding period isn't long-term yet.
