RECRUITING INFORMATION / ECONOMIC CRIME PREVENTION / CADET TRAINING / ORGANIZATION OF THE RCMP
Welcome to the RCMP World Wide Web site. The RCMP is Canada's national police service, providing law enforcement services in detachments across the country. The following information about functions and services will provide you with a better understanding of the organization's multi-faceted responsibilities.
The RCMP's newest and most exciting direction for the delivery of police services is Community Policing. RCMP Commissioner Philip Murray explains the need for a partnership and a renewed committment to the communities the RCMP serves in his Directional Statement. The RCMP's Mission, Vision and Values and the Mission Statement on Community Policing reinforce this committment. The RCMP's Cadet Training Program is a reflection of this philosophy and recruiting strategies focus on individuals who are willing to become partners with their communities.
In addition to the Force's federal policing activities in the Drug Enforcement Program, Economic Crime and Counterfeiting there are a number of other federal policing duties carried out by the RCMP. These include the Immigration and Passport Program, Customs and Excise Program, Proceeds of Crime, computer and telecommunications crime, and the enforcement of federal laws and statutes not covered by specialized sections mentioned above. In addition, the RCMP enforces traffic laws and performs highway patrol duties in contract divisions across Canada.
As part of the community policing initiative within Federal Services Directorate, Economic Crime Branch has established the Economic Crime Prevention Web Page. This crime prevention page will always be a "work in process" as we will update the page regularly to ensure that the information is timely and reflective of current trends in criminal activity. The date of the last update to each subject page will be displayed in the upper right corner. See also the Technological Crime Bulletin.
Interpol Ottawa is Canada's link with the international law enforcement community. It is administered and operated by the RCMP. Interpol Ottawa provides assistance on behalf of police forces in member states in the following areas: offences against persons and property, the location and extradition of fugitives and information on stolen cultural property.
The RCMP is proud of its tradition of quality service to Canadians. The organization is also proud of its historic link with Canada's past. A living symbol of Canadian history is the famed RCMP Musical Ride. Through a partnership with the Mounted Police Foundation, the RCMP has undertaken an innovative approach to further its community policing initiatives.
