rude, ref. Intel's Anypoint. published wireless downloads range from 10mbps to 1.6mbps depending on network, range up to 150ft. the range is line of site, though, so actual range is more practical at 20 ft or less. in tests performed by Intel utilizing 56k modems, with 1.6mbps Anypoint setup, transferring 1mb took approximately seven minutes. xDSL speeds were higher, but not substantively next generation (3g) is a new wireless/wired standard. this standard encompases more than just wireless handsets. they are defining overlay paths for satellite, wired, wireless - whatever. all new chipsets will be required to communicate in this standard; for pcs and handsets; new models, not just modem card plugs intel.com
