Some new evidence that the EDS business model is sound-

Above all else, Mr. Gerstner said, International Business Machines is betting heavily that a shortage of information technology workers will drive customers toward I.B.M.'s huge Global Services unit, which can either take over their computer operations through outsourcing agreements or provide consulting and technical help in integrating networks and new products. He endorsed estimates that the integration services market alone would grow to $250 billion in the next few years.
But while Mr. Gerstner took obvious pleasure in reviewing I.B.M.'s achievements in recent years, he told the analysts that his most important message was that I.B.M. expected to increasingly become a services-driven company.
"When economic conditions drive businesses to be more efficient, services help them reduce costs," Mr. Gerstner said. "A lot of those offerings look pretty good right now."

EDS Says It's Insulated From Tech Slowdown
WHITE SULPHUR SPRING, W.Va. (Reuters) - Electronic Data Systems Corp. said it remained insulated from the technology-sector slump since the weak economy has prompted corporations to turn to the computer services company for outsourcing, systems integration and productivity improvements.
