there is a wiff of fascism in Virginia and southern aristocracy. State had been ruled by a political machine until the Civil Rights movement. Between 1900-1963 less than 10% of the population voted and there only choice was to vote for a clique in the Democratic party.

That mentality and the closeness to DC makes it an attractice place for some extremist groups.

2 years ago I went to a John Birch society it was a hoot and holler.
