Corvis Corporation - Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown's Raj Srikanth Initiates Research Coverage

NEW YORK, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown analyst Raj Srikanth initiated coverage on shares of Corvis Corporation (Nasdaq:CORV) ($7.38) with a BUY investment rating.

According to Srikanth, Corvis is one of a handful of next generation optical systems "pure plays," which has emerged as a significant technology innovator since its IPO. "Our recommendation is based on our belief that optical networks is a key enabling technology and that Corvis offers potential high returns for patient long-term investors prepared for the risks inherent in a technology pioneer," said Srikanth. "Corvis is one of the best positioned companies as the telecom space marches towards all-optical networks."

The BUY rating on the shares of Corvis is founded on Srikanth's belief that the company has:

-- A reputation as a technology pioneer.
-- A high growth market.
-- Strong execution on a focused strategy.
-- New customers expected to come on line and diversify the customer base.
-- Expected profitability in 1H02.
-- A strong balance sheet.
-- Dr. David Huber, an optical pioneer and proven entrepreneur.
-- An attractive valuation, trading at the lowest multiples of any pure play systems vendor.
