Gao,

This must be why Cheney/Bush are talking about recession:

Among the rosy data, the University of Michigan's consumer confidence index rose unexpectedly in May, snapping a long slide that began late last year. This suggested consumer spending may be sustained, and some experts said Friday's batch of economic reports could also indicate the Fed's monetary easing cycle may be drawing to a close.

Also, the government announced a surprising jump in retail sales last month, and in a separate report, said the April Producer Price Index grew 0.3 percent, while the core PPI, which excludes food and energy prices, rose 0.2 percent. The market was expecting an increase of 0.4 percent in the overall, and 0.1 percent rise in the core. The PPI is a key gauge of inflation at the wholesale level.
