Taylor looks interesting. We seem to have some things in common. "I prefer detail to generalizations." Indeed.

Someone with a wicked sense of humor hired Paul Kennedy to review the book. Kennedy specializes in those soapy, pap-filled over-arching generalizations masquerading as history that make my teeth ache. Better the Encyclopedia Britannica if you want a broad overview - at least they separate things out by category instead of lumping them all together into a scholarly version of mystery meat.
