I rely exclusively on 5-year charts. By 5-year charts, I mean 5-year price bars. Generally, I look at 100 periods of data. So I like my charts to go back 500 years. The candlesticks are most revealing.
Perfect Trader Inc. offers a real-time 5-year chart service for only $400 a month. Five-year price bars are updated at the conclusion of each 5-year price bar. It's a good service, and well worth the money.
Perfect Trader Inc.'s 5-year chart service provides a wide variety of indicators, including MACD. MACD 8/17/9 seems to work well, with 8 representing 8 5-year periods (40 years), 17 signifying 17 5-year periods, etc.
The smart trader concentrates on neither the present nor the future. The forward-looking trader, in fact, concentrates on the past. The basic philosophy behind Perfect Trader Inc. is hindsight. In hindsight, I've done quite well with Perfect Trader Inc.'s 20/20 Hindsight system.
