<<According to the Libertarians, representatives from 190 governments are meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, this week to negotiate a multi-national treaty called the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. It's expected to call for big increases in cigarettes prices, which would be the same everywhere in the world; severe restrictions on cigarette advertising; and maybe multi-billion dollar lawsuits to hold tobacco companies "responsible" for tobacco-related health problems. The World Health Organization wants the treaty ratified by U.N. member nations by 2003.>> Anyone know how large a threat this is or what happened at the meeting. If ohter companies follow the feeding at the trough done by the States in the US, it would not bode well for tobacco. I guess the difference is that the companies could pull out of countries that got to threatening, while that wasn't an option in the US.
