Glenn re: your eBay experience; do you get better sale prices on average than you would charge in your store?

There are a few items that we stumpled upon that seem to sell for more on Ebay than in the regular stores. One is very low priced toe rings. Most items sell on Ebay for less than in the store when one is truly honest with their descriptions.

Have you had collection problems?

I assume you mean payment prior to shipping since that is the only way we ship. As a percentage, it is really a low problem.

What percentage of folks post feedback?

About 50%. I had some difficulty confirming a customer received an item and a higher percentage of loss using the USPS on the way to customers. We are switching to UPS tomorrow so we can track all shipments. I am not use to the consumer not receiving the product we are selling in a timely manner. The items that sell on our web site are a figher higher priced ticket and those ship registered mail which almost always arrives. Feedback sometimes is a problem due to the customer not receiving the product and sometimes many do not want to bother.

Are you limiting how expensive an item you will offer through this channel?

Only for this time of year. Higher end meaning $10K and up receives a lot of lookers but not any bids. I have not had experience with the holiday season to see how that ticket works. The variety of escrow firms makes a very high ticket item not to be a problem in my opinion.

Shilling is rampid on Ebay at least in the jewelry division. That and many vendors and buyers moving the transaction out of the hands of Ebay. This is causing Ebay to try and keep auctions from having private web sites hyperlinks. The abuse of some ruin it for many. The advantage was on-line store visibility but not for the exact product one is selling on Ebay.

The shilling in jewelry is so common it disgusts me and I would bore the thread going on about it. I found a sales rep for what was recently one of my suppliers selling on Ebay. No big deal there but the firm that did the manufacturering would have employees fromt hat firm bid the items up to get the end consumer to pay more to the selling rep. I inquired about that dishonest and illegal practice to the sales rep. He stated it is a "gray area." He said why should not the manufacturer sell him something for $300 and then try and buy it back for $100? Hmmm..I never saw the manufacturer win. That is not gray to me at all.

The last comment I have is the typical Ebay customer is value oriented. However, the typical Ebay customer is far more polite than my average customer. I can't emphasize enough how understanding the Ebay buyer is when it comes to lost shipping items, errors on our part which can happen, etc.
