Conspiracy theories...
It's obvious that this thing came down with the help of some very well-placed people. Nothing drops this fast and this hard without the help of a few savvy investors. Did it come from the outside or from the inside? You be the judge. Trading by TD, CSFB and Goldman is interesting. Did TD hold and is TD still holding the debt that was incurred and transfered from Globenet? Is it secured? If you take the holdings of Providence, DLJ and GS Capital, does it amount to enough to wrest control from the Ledes? If TSIX is forced to go back to the trough, 3, 6, 9, 18 months out, will the Ledes be faced with ponying up on a share issue or losing control? My personal feeling is that this was just a good time to short and pick up some cheap shares. Apparently TD and CSFB did. Wonder what happened to Goldman.
What we do know is that Alcatel has to build the Pacific link. There is no provision for backing out. Guess I'd be inclined to work on my client's "business plan" too.
Happy speculating,
L.
