Introduction of the first SH-5 based product—a jointly developed chip from Hitachi and ST—is planned for the second half of this year. That 64-bit SuperH RISC processor will have a PCI interface, DDR SDRAM interface, peripheral interface, timers, UARTs and the SHdebug link for high-speed, real-time debug. Built in 0.15-µm CMOS and running at 400 MHz, the chip will deliver high performance: 714 MIPS (Dhrystone v1.1 benchmark), 9.6 GOPS and 2.8 GFLOPS. Despite this speed, power dissipation of its CPU core is expected to be under 600 mW.
