And it just might be "providence" that
allows for a religion such as Hinduism of
almost 5000yrs old to remain vital and very much
in existence as well , Neo.
25million gathered at the Ganges this year to bathe....
and not one bottle of Jack Daniels or six-pack of
Buddweiser you would have found anywhere...
Christendom seems to have been on a drunken rampage
thru the centuries ,by comparison...alcohol
being their favorite universal
drug of choice.
Let's see , India gave us Tea....and opium for the British
to enslave the chinese... there was
firewater for the Indians...
and slavery for the Black....and
tobacco for everyone.
What Buddha taught was more Christian than much of
Christianity, though you wish to talk only of
submerging the will & the obliteration of
individuality . Buddha talked of a "truer" self
and that "other shore", one can reach .
It is an expanding of self, and an
increasing of awareness of what we are.
The Life force discovered deep in the conciousness
of a person freed from the burdens of guilt, neurosis
and the weight of original sin ,
can be quite liberating.<g>
It is Providence
that we have everyone of these other
great examples of man's exploration of his own
personhood , mortality , and divinity and
the world around him, and the
example of every culture and civilization
to that "progress " , you would take
all the credit for.
What I find shallow? That the catholic church has never
been able to come up with a comprehensible doctrine
for human sexuality after all these centuries,
and still can't.
