BTG Team Awarded $60 Million Contract for Department of Defense Integrated Broadcast Service

FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2001--BTG, Inc. (Nasdaq: BTGI), an information systems and technical services company, leads an industry team awarded a contract for the Integrated Broadcast Service (IBS), a Department of Defense program for the Joint Services.

The contract, with estimated revenue of $60 million over a seven-year period, is for the development phase of IBS.

The U.S. Air Force Electronic Systems Center, which is managing the acquisition of IBS, last year awarded BTG, Lockheed Martin, and TRW six-month contracts for the first phase of IBS, which covered program definition and risk reduction. The three teams competed for the Phase II development contract that was awarded to BTG this week.

The primary mission of the Integrated Broadcast Service is to disseminate to military commanders time-critical, lethal threat data, e.g., information about allied and enemy troop movements, aircraft and ships, geographic data, and weapons. By integrating four existing intelligence broadcasts into a single service, IBS will make it easier for commanders to request essential intelligence information. IBS will allow the user to establish a profile detailing the precise intelligence data needed for a specific mission. The IBS will gather the required data from multiple sensors, integrate it into a coherent picture, and deliver it to the user in a common message format over secure worldwide communications networks. By focusing on the specific requirements of the user, IBS will provide accurate and timely information tailored to support critical decision-making.

BTG President and CEO, Ed Bersoff, said the company is proud of its selection to work on this important Department of Defense program. "IBS goes to the heart of what BTG has done for the past two decades. It combines our years of experience in the defense intelligence community with our extensive capabilities in information management and data fusion. Best of all, it gives us the privilege of continuing to support the men and women who defend this country."

BTG's IBS Program Manager, Vice President Rob Kelly, said IBS will be "a model of information management for the Department of Defense and the intelligence community. We have assembled a team of partners with the knowledge, experience, and expertise needed to deliver a successful solution. We are all committed to making sure that our warfighters have the critical information they need to reduce the risk to themselves while successfully completing their missions."

Bob Osterloh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the company's Defense Intelligence Systems business unit, said the BTG team is "extremely excited about the opportunity to deliver this critical program to the warfighter. We have assembled a team of leaders in the industry - Boeing, Raytheon, Verizon, Sterling Software and INRI (both Northrup Grumman/Logicon companies), Emergent Technologies, Averstar, Database Architects, Inc., and Reliable Integration Services, Inc. Together, we will ensure that the Integrated Broadcast Service not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our customer."

Osterloh said these information management applications are readily transferable to BTG's current and potential clients in the commercial sector, and in federal, state and local government.
