D.J. - my only experience with a crowded environment was a test setup that someone did at Terminal C in Houston's Intercontinental airport. Since I did not have a server on the same segment I could not tell if maximum speeds were affected - speed to the internet did not seem to be slower. Also I don't know how many access points they had up or anything about the LAN setup.

Since 802.11b is fairly short range so one probably gets pretty good performance within a "cell" - unless it's something like a starbucks "internet cafe" in which case it is likely that they would use multiple access points to get the coverage.
