CIENA Corp (CIEN) 58.10 -0.63: Earlier today, Robertson Stephens reiterates BUY; firm expects company to meet or beat their estimates when they report on May 17th with revenues driven by strong growth in sales of Ciena's CoreDirector optical switch and continued solid growth in sales of long-haul DWDM systems.

Wireless Equipment : Banc of America Securities in their Mid-Day note officially trims down their 2001 handset forecast to 425 mln from 450 mln; says biggest variable remains global business cycle. Near-term firm cites Nokia (NOK) roadshow on Tuesday in NYC and in San Francisco Wednesday; longer-term says look to ramp of GPRS phones in the second half of 2001. Firm's top picks remain Nokia rated STRONG BUY and Qualcomm (QCOM) rated BUY at distant second.
