Most semi-equips compete on the leading edge of technology where there is obvious product need and barriers to competitive entry. UTEK operates on the trailing edge of technology. Their recent attempts to market their 2 leading edge products failed. UTEK has done an excellent job in finding niches for their trailing edge technology. Unfortunately, some of the niches have been lost as technology moves forward. They have created new niches, but the cumulative sales are still lower than the last upturn.
