PC Sales in Japan Decrease in Value, Volume
May 14, 2001 (TOKYO) -- Sales of PCs in Japan continue to drop both in number of units and sales value.
As for the value, it fell under the 190,000 yen (US$1,550) mark.
PC sales in the fourth week of April (April 16-22, 2001) decreased both in units and in value by 6.7 percent and by 7.0 percent, respectively, from the previous week. Compared with the same period last year (April 17-23, 2000), sales declined both by 5.2 percent in units, and by 8.5 percent in value. The average PC price decreased by 724 yen to 189,800 yen from the previous week's 190,524 yen. (122.36 yen = US$1)
The data was based on the information service company GfK Japan Ltd., which collects and tabulates POS data from 3,200 large-volume retail stores of household electric appliance shops throughout Japan.
