Mr GJ, Re: Last week's increased retail sales data -'The devil's in the details'? <grin>

I'm thinking that the headlines may have overstated the situation - somewhat - for the following reasons.

Took a quick look at some of the data/reports issued. I'm wondering if the report could be overstating the April sales on the high side?

For example, the Big 3 U.S. auto guys had just reported a DOWNTURN in the April sales.

The government report seemed to indicate that auto sales increased ??? Faulty data ? - Or perhaps the time period used in the government report was something like Mid-March to Mid-April (rather than just all of April).

Also, the government report also lowered the previously reported sales data for Feb & March - offsetting most of the so-called April increase. A significant fact not emphasized in most of the euphoric headlines.

Signed,

The Grinch-who-stole-the April-Retail-Sales-Increase <Bigger Grin>

See-ya round the thread.
