I found some data on manufacturing use of NG.

eia.doe.gov

As of 1994 the industrial demand category accounted for 40% of NG use. By my reckoning, industrial demand breaks down as:

30% chemicals
10% Petroleum refining
10% Primary metals
6% paper
24% other manufacturing
20% other industrial

Interesting that the chemical industry accounts for 10 % of all NG use. Looks like manufacturing must account for 36% of all NG use. I'm sure everybody knows what has been happening to manufacturing activity recently.
