Signs Contracts With 10 Companies

BEIJING (Dow Jones)--China United Communications Corp. Tuesday signed CDMA equipment contracts worth a total of 12.1 billion yuan ($1=CNY8.28), a company spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires.

The contracts were signed with all 10 companies that had previously been reported as receiving contracts. The spokesman declined to give values for the individual contracts.

The foreign companies that signed contracts are the Qingdao joint venture of Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU), the Hangzhou joint venture of Motorola Inc. (MOT), the Guangdong joint venture of Nortel Networks Corp. (NT), the Nanjing joint venture of Telefon AB LM Ericsson (ERICY), the Shanghai Bell joint venture of Alcatel SA (F.ALC).

The Chinese companies that signed contracts are Huawei Technologies Inc., Datang Telecom Technology Co. (Q.DTT), Guangzhou Jinpeng Group Co., Eastern Communications Co. Ltd. (Q.ECM), and Shenzhen Zhongxing Telecom Co. Ltd. (Q.SZZ).

The spokesman said the contracts were for "main system equipment". He didn't elaborate further.
