"Using XML to extend the considerable server-side capabilities of Java into integration solutions and Web Services is the next major development frontier," said Evan Quinn, Chief Analyst of Hurwitz Group. "JBuilder 5 puts Borland's Java/XML stake deeply in the ground by offering the best-of-breed technology to a wide range of users in the developer community."
As part of its cross-platform solution, JBuilder 5 adds new application server support for IBM(R) WebSphere(R), along with upgraded support for BEA(R) WebLogic 6(R) and Borland(R) App Server 4.5. Customers can choose to develop and deploy applications on Windows(R), Solaris(TM) or Linux(R) platforms. This not only offers customers more choices, but more interoperability between the different platforms, application servers and team environments.
"IBM is helping drive the next phase of e-business with WebSphere's recent support of Web services -- such as SOAP, WSDL and UDDI -- enabling companies to more easily integrate and conduct transactions over the Internet," said Scott Hebner, director of marketing, WebSphere(R), IBM Software. "We are pleased that Borland has enabled JBuilder for WebSphere(R) to help clients build dynamic e-businesses to drive a competitive edge in the market."
JBuilder 5 now offers fully integrated, comprehensive support for XML that allows users to develop applications that require the data integration capabilities necessary to successfully communicate across the Internet. Users can build entire XML applications through the four stages of the development lifecycle in JBuilder 5: creation, manipulation, presentation and integration of data.
"The increased use of the Internet and the growth of Web services is driving the demand for data interchange that is open and extensible," explains Tony de la Lama, vice president and general manager of Borland's Java Business Unit. "Borland JBuilder 5 offers our customers the freedom of choice to develop and deploy applications on most major platforms."
To keep abreast with customers' current market needs, Borland has added new and enhanced features in JBuilder 5:
-- New support for Rational(R) ClearCase(R) and Microsoft(R) Visual SourceSafe(TM) plus additional CVS integration simplifies concurrent management of source code for development teams; -- New Tomcat and WebLogic servlet engine integration, Web deployment wizards, Java Web Start support, Enterprise Archives (EAR), Resource Adapter Archives (RAR) and Web Application Archive (WAR) allow one click deployment of e-commerce applications; -- Improved InternetBeans Express(TM) allows faster creation of dynamic data-driven Web applications; -- Improved Entity Bean Modeler for faster development and deployment of distributed applications.
