When I hunt East that is about right. No more than 50 yards, usually. But out West you can get some nice long shots. I don' t usually take them. In my opinion, guys prolly shouldn't shoot longer than about 250 yards (if that). But I have done it. About four years ago (I guess it was, can't remember), I got my first elk from quite a long distance. I could actually hear the round hit the thing! Folks think I'm kidding when I tell them that. But I have done it now enough times to know I am definitely hearing it. I think the contact delay caused by the long distance is just enough to clear the local sound so that I can hear contact. It is very weird and awesome. Kinda like a sssshwack!
