The vast majority of my experiences with religion were pleasant and respectful. The only one that comes to mind that is slightly different was my wife telling me that the local Catholic priest was discouraging non-Catholics who came to Mass from coming forward during Communion and receiving a blessing rather than the host (as they are not eligible). When I get the chance I will ask him what the deal is as it isn't universal to my knowledge. Religion is too deeply woven into the fabric of our lives and laws and indeed politics, that it seems foolish to try and root it out. But here, at least, we are free to try.
