It is not shallow to think what is hard is easy. You think it is shallow to think that, but that doesn't make it so. I'm not sure what is "hard" and what is easy. Many people seem to think being around children is "hard." Everyday I get told by people "I could never do what you do." Yet after working all day I feel WONDERFUL. Because I love it (and it is easy for me, because I truly enjoy it).

I understand you think that people are shallow if they enjoy all of life- even the suffering. And yet I still don't understand why you feel that way. It is NOT like mom telling you to smile- because that is an external force making you act as if you feel something you do not. If you can meet pain with joy, and suffering with joy, because you WANT to- I don't see what is shallow about that. It has nothing to do with hiding the actual feelings when the action is coming from the person, and is their choice and is, in fact, their actual feelings. There is nothing "wrong" with someone for choosing not to be upset (imo). I am curious why you think there is something wrong with someone who chooses to meet life differently than you do (assuming they are not breaking any laws, or being unnecessarily rude- which I know you find objectionable).

Who is to be the arbiter of "appropriate joy"? Don't you find that a rather absurd proposition?
