Petz: Anyhow, this problem would not show up as Windows crashing with a blue screen or whatever, if it really happened the CPU would just plain stop running and require a reset.

FYI, this happens to my system fairly often when running the Windows OpenGL screen saver "3D Text". I have never experienced this type of crash under any other circumstances (on this system - .18µ Athlon classic).

However, I strongly suspect MS Windows 98 to be the culprit ;-)
