Economic activity depends on freedom and democracy. I agree that India, with its world largest democracy has the greatest of the potential in the region. I pray that India becomes the most benevolent power by addressing the basic issue that eats up the core of Indian strength; the ‘poverty’ of it's millions.

The inequalities that find it roots to the caste system where some are left to be devoured by fellow beings for their entire existence, the Islamic and Mogul domination of north Indian society that created that division that still haunts Indian sub-continent, the Raj that never addressed those inequalities of centuries and perpetuated a system where 200,000 bureaucrats could control 400 million masses in undivided India until 1947, and the political leadership that betrayed the India by pursuing in the first 40 years of its existence policies that were Socialists in character.

After 40-50 years of Socialist India finally woke to the jungle laws of capitalism that help create the inequalities grow further.

Neither religious extremism nor Socialism has ever delivered compensation for any nation. We at the northern end have seen blend of everything that makes a nation fail like bigotry, extremism, carrying the shameful stigma of being Arabs that we are not and practising Socialism when Socialism was dying elsewhere, that has shown us with experience that above all the preservation of democracy and keeping the army in the barracks may be the great of national virtues on that count alone India gets an A plus.

I have great expectations from the region and hopefully India would lead the region in an age where we can expect that democratic India export its economic vitality to neighbours. In our region the biggest threat to ‘Peace’ that ensures economic prosperity stems from bigotry and religious intolerance.

These two factors in the neighbouring countries and within India are unfortunately in no short supply. Don’t ever underestimate the dependence of progress and eradication of poverty depends on building human bridges across race, religion and breaking tradition that has left scars on our society.

I have greatest respect for India that ha kept even in hardest of times military under wraps have pursued democracy as its major goal and that is in itself are greatest achievements I doubt any other country of the world with 1 billion populace and parallel the feat, I hope one day democratic China may just do it but presently it is rather very optimistic choice but like USSR present Chinese regime may decide to wrap it up. India’s economic revival will be greatest news for the globe it will be success of mankind over failures of the past.
