New York, May 16 (Bloomberg) -- The following is a list of companies whose shares may move in U.S. markets Wednesday, May 16. U.S. Equity Preview includes news that occurred after markets closed Tuesday.

Beaters-

BEA Systems Inc. (BEAS) rose as high as $37.09 in after-hours trading. It closed at $34.04 in regular trading. The maker of electronic-commerce software said it earned 8 cents a share in the first quarter ended April 30, excluding costs related to acquisitions and other items, topping the 7-cent average forecast by First Call.

Albany Molecular Research Inc. (AMRI) rose as high as $32 in after-hours trading. It closed at $30.50 in regular trading. The chemistry research company had first-quarter profit of 23 cents a share, beating the 20-cent by First Call.

Mentor Corp. (MNTR): The maker of products for plastic surgery said that it had profit from continuing operations in the fourth quarter ended March 31 of 43 cents a share, more than the 35-cent by First Call. Mentor rose $1.78 to $25.38.

QLogic Corp. (QLGC): The maker of components for storing information on computer networks said it earned 28 cents a share in the fourth quarter ended April 1, excluding certain costs. The company was expected to earn 27 cents a share. QLogic rose $1.01 to $42.51.

Missers-

Applied Materials Inc. (AMAT): The maker of equipment used to build semiconductors said it earned 32 cents a share in the second quarter ended April 29, excluding one time costs, a penny less than the forecast First Call. Applied Materials rose 20 cents to $49.89.

Sprint Corp. (FON): The long-distance telephone company said that it anticipates second-quarter profit of 28 cents to 30 cents a share and full- year earnings of $1.13 to $1.18 a share. It was expected to earn 32 cents in the second quarter and $1.29 for the year by First Call. Sprint fell 6 cents to $21.58.

Sycamore Networks Inc. (SCMR) fell as low as $8.63 in after-hours trading. It closed at $9.32 in regular trading. The maker of fiber-optic equipment said it had a loss of 19 cents a share in the third quarter excluding costs related to restructuring and other items. The company was expected to lose 18 cents by First Call.

Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. (SIRI): The builder of a digital satellite radio network increased its monthly fee for radio programming by 30 percent to $12.95. Sirius rose 70 cents to $13.80.

Terayon Communication Systems Inc. (TERN) fell as low as $4.56 in after-hours trading. It closed at $5.51 in regular trading. The cable-modem maker said that it will take an additional charge of $449.9 million against its first-quarter results, largely to write-off the value of acquired companies.

TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. (TQNT) fell as low as $24.45 in after-hours trading. It closed at $26 in regular trading. The maker of chips for mobile telephones and telecommunications equipment agreed to buy Sawtek Inc. (SAWS), which makes cell phone components, for $1.3 billion in stock. Sawtek rose as high as $28.20 in after-hours trading, up from its close of $26.01.
