First I saw of that was at The Register, yesterday... The PC vendor will end its exclusive use of Intel CPUs in June when it announces that it will use AMD's mobile Athlon 4 in an upcoming high performance laptop.
That, at least, is what Thomas Weisel Partners analyst Eric Ross claims to have been told by sources. In a pro-AMD report issued to investors today, Ross said AMD will announce Dell's support at the Computex Taipei show early next month. theregister.co.uk
I'm not convinced - I think Dell would stand to lose too much from Intel. Possibly, if it were a non-corporate line, they might risk it...
The Inquirer also has doubts, and apparently so does the analyst quoted above <g> We asked the analyst in question, Eric Ross, VP of research at San Francisco-based Thomas Weisel Partners, where he got the information, and he admitted that he thought the deal 'unlikely'. "I am hearing from some of my best sources in the PC supply chain that this will be announced at Computex. I thought it was unlikely, too, and, barring my own hubris, I could be incorrect.
