Stocks Expected to Drop at Open

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wall Street was poised to head lower on Wednesday as investors failed to see signs that the Federal Reserve five interest-rate cuts this year have jumpstarted the slumping economy.

``The Fed raised the prospect that that things may be worse than expected and the economy may still be getting weaker,'' said Peter Boockvar, a trader at Miller Tabak & Co. ``People are loosing patience and want to see that things are getting better.''

Nasdaq 100 futures for June were trading 44.50 points off at 1,772, Dow Jones industrials futures were off 60 points at 10,856 and Standard & Poor's 500 futures slipped 9.70 points to 1,247.80 -- all suggested a lower opening.
