John - Thanks for the explanation about switching. Seems like NOK & the GSM cabal is facing the same crisis that MOT faced several years ago, i. e. lack of technology in switching. MOT bombed every network deployment in the US and Japan. Subsequenetly, they lost the current rounds of new infrastructure to Lucent and Nortel which had end to end technology solutions for switching.

It is such a joke to compare NOK or ERICY to Lucent and Nortel when it comes to infrastructure. Nortel has made major acquisitions in technology like Bay Networks to beef up their switching & Lucent acquired Ascend. Europe has not made any strategic acquisitions in switching with the exception of Alcatel, which acquired DIGI. ALA has played an important role with QCOM in developing switching solutions for CDMA in the past. I would like to see ALA and LU complete a merger of equals to give the combined enterprise a significant lead in technology and market presence in Europe. LU needs a foot in the door to break loose in

I have no idea how NOK is going to turn itself around at this point. 150% vendor financing is going to blow up when operators start defaulting on GPRS/WCDMA payments because they are unhappy with the equipment. This could leave NOK holding the bag for non performing WCDMA equipment if they are not careful.
