Rich baseball is a great game and I used to love it till the money and lack of loyalty ruined it for me. I was a huge Tiger fan for years when they were crummy and rarely won a game. Dave Rozema and the "Bird" were some rare moments of joy for a losing squad. Then came the Tramell, Gibson, Whitaker era and you could see the makings of a future championship team. I used to listen to every game with Ernie Harwell and it was great. Finally in 94 they won with Jack Morris pitching great. Then the team which should have been a dynasty was destroyed by free agency and that was it for me.
Soccer has an amazing amount of style and sophistication but you have to learn the game and love it. At times it is often like baseball slow and quiet but just like seeing a shortstop make a great play soccer has its intricacies that don't show up on the score but greatly reward the fan.
Being an engineer you can see things that others don't and soccer is like that. I shared your dislike of the game till my kids got involved(we lived in a multi cultured area not filled with wasps) and I ended up coaching for 10 years and fell in love with the game.
Have a good one
