wow, the Koreans scarfed up 50% of all new shipbuilding orders last year......and trade tensions rising

Trade tensions continue to heat up in the face of global economic deterioration. While Japan recently imposed tariffs on a number of agricultural and fishery exports from China, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun recently reported that the Shipbuilders' Association of Japan will ask the government to join the European Union in filing a complaint with the WTO, citing that the South Korean government provides unfair assistance to the country's shipbuilding industry. Of interest, Korean shipbuilders took in a whopping 50% of global orders for new ships last year, but something tells us that the neither the EU nor the Japanese government will be satisfied with the explanation that Korea's market share was largely a function of a weaker won.
