Hey Greg, what exactly is a "reactionary investor"? Where I come from "Reactionary" means almost "Facist", is that what you mean? What is wrong in staying out of the market during turbulent time and in the markets during good times. I got out last in the April 18th to April 20th period (just after the "surprise" rate cut), the Naz was just under 2200, I stayed away for about a month, when the Naz did absolutely nothing, so, what is wrong with that strategy? I got back in with the Naz about 5% lower than my exit, I see nothing wrong or "reactionary" with that, unless, of course, you are in love with the market and deserting her in hard times is "unamerican" (g).
