I will take a crack at answering your objections. You presume what I do not, that someone of character and intelligence, having fully meditated upon the route to wisdom, might think that it can arise by following one's strong prejudices and preferring originality to truth. In other words, I think it is shallow, not merely mistaken, because I think one cannot have thought upon it deeply. Perhaps I am mistaken, but that is my take at this time.

On the other, I take it that the failure to register the variations in one's fortune or the fortune of those one loves means that one care's little, and therefore is emotionally shallow.
