One of the marks of a person who is frivolous (and thus shallow) is to underestimate the requirements of a task, and to expect to get credit for poor work. Someone who is serious about doing something takes care to find out what is required and to pursue the matter conscientiously.

On the other: I think that some things are actually bad, and some things are actually good. Therefore, of course, I believe also in appropriate responses. Obviously, in a given instance, one might not know all of the factors at play in someone's reaction. But in a general way, I would wonder at the parent who showed no anxiety at his child's injury, or the husband who enjoyed watching his wife suffer.....
