Mark and All,
Thanks for your help, Though I have not resolved the problem YET... Could not do what Dennis said because of his Caveat (Brand name system). Amazingly enough I built it myself, I used a Pioneer DVD Rom and a HP CD-Writer 9100 series, The other components are an Elsa Geforce 2 video card, Biostar mainboard, 900 mghtz AMD, IBM hardrive, and a generic 3.5 floppy...Running on Win 98, Mark I tried your fix got to the-select settings tab- and their was none. could go no further...
Again thanks for the help learn a lot here...
Steve

BTW. That dastardly freeze up problem returned also...
AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Edit- The cd rom drives do work when I am not in Windows...
