From Morgan Stanley's website:
Qualcomm (QCOM-$59-SB-V) Positive CDMA News In-Line With Our Expectations L. Gerhardy

--China Unicom solidified its commitment to its CDMA network build-out. The company formally released contracts to build-out a 2G CDMA network that lays the groundwork for its plans to migrate to 3G (cdma20001x) in 2002.

--Nextel reiterates cdma2000 1x plans for its 3G build-out. Since Nextel will undergo a "forklift upgrade" of their network, their selection of cdma2000 1x as the 3G technology of choice is another strong positive.

--Alternative 3G technologies are experiencing delays. Recently NTT DoCoMo and Manx Telecom (subsidiary of British Telecom) have both delayed the roll-out of their WCDMA 3G services due to technical problems.

I love it when MSDW called WCDMA 3G the alternative technology.

Again, CDMA 2000 is moving out in Asia, and wherever there is open competition (in Europe there is none of course), this is why CDMA 2000 is now the leader, the horse on the inside in the race for the wireless / intenet data nexus.

Best.

NB. In current spectrum, its GPRS only as competition.

In new spectrum, its a committee product WCDMA vs CDMA 2000.
