Mindmeld - the article is not clear that this is the capital destined to networking equipment.

The numbers are very close to the reported TOTAL capex spend of the carriers when you look in their annual and quarterly reports (I did). For example, SBC's capex on property, plant and equipment MRQ was just shy of 2.8 B$ x 4 = 11.2 B$ vs 12 B as listed in the report. Considering Q4 is generally bigger capex spend than previous quarters, I'd say looks like that's a total capital spend budget, not just the NE breakout.

The author of the article is being misleading if he is assuming this is all network gear capital spend. Or you are being misled. One or the other.

But it isn't all network equipment spend.

Unless carriers are spending capital in ways they don't show the SEC... and that would be bad.

John.
