the 2GHz P4 will be a whopping 110W! (even if Vcc_mid = 1.7V, the max power is still 104W.) Intel’s documents on this subject point out that the cost of cooling hardware rises exponentially after power dissipation demands exceed around 75W. With the 2GHz Pentium 4, the cooling systems will be either costly but sufficient, or under engineered, relying on performance throttling to make up the difference under demanding loads (as outlined in Intel P4 thermal guidelines).
