Elmer, I warned you about this last year: it seems that the P4 hot spot could be located in or around the floating-point unit or in its double pumped ALUs (aka Rapid Execution Engine). inqst.com Those double speed ALU's were the dumbest CPU idea I have heard of yet, and were conceived by someone lacking a basic understanding of CPU performance.
