Dear Gus: You would be amazed when one lives in S. Fla. how quick you can run up 8,000 miles going out west. Its a long way to ANYWHERE from around here. 3 years ago my wife and I took a summer and drove 18,000 miles all over the West. We crisscrossed every state and hit every National Park, etc. and did a LOT of trail riding. Gas was often only about $1 a gallon then. We are taking 2 1/2 weeks this time and of that time about a week or so is actual trails, rest is travel. But a jeep (TJ-Wrangler) is like a sailboat, the fun is in the trip. haha. If I keep my speed down to 70mph or less I can average 18mpg but at 75 it drops SIGNIFICANTLY due to my gear ratio. I think if someone did a study they would find that jeep drivers, especially those set up for offroad adventure are the safest drivers of all cause we GOT TO DRIVE SLOW. haha.
As to your comment on Refineries, thats what I too have learned. In fact I understand there are over 60 DIFFERENT BLENDS Nationally mandated by state and local governments and THAT is the REAL REASON for the short supply of gasoline. Another example of ECONUTS and Govt. coming together to really screw up things. Ought to be AT MOST 4 blends based purely on Regional differences. That alone would like solve our "Energy" crisis. JDN
