Jesus seems to merely forgive people AFTER depravity- he doesn't actually seem to be stopping very much. And quite frankly I don't see a lot of value in forgiveness. I don't like the concept. Karma is a better concept- where nothing is forgotten or forgiven, but everything has to be worked off, as it were. Much more satisfying (imo). Of course that system doesn't seemt to stop depravity either. Some people are just going to be depraved (however you want to define that in your society) and I see no reason to let them off the hook and make them feel better with religion. But that's me.
