I think that Hammer will bitch slap P4, but the jury is definitely out on this. Even Jerry admits that neither Thoroughbred nor even Barton, can keep up with Northwood.

Based on what I'm seeing from the AMD roadmap, the K8 series isn't for your desktop, so it won't really be competing against P4... It will be trying to face off against IA-64 in the form of a 0.13 micron version of McKinley... or better...

Furthermore, the K8 series isn't due until 2H of next year... and that could still slip another 6 months. Northwood will be at least 9 to 12 months old before K8 sees the light of day. Intel may have more surprises in store by then...

Focusing on your last statement:

So Hammer better be damn good if AMD is to stay in the game against P4.

...given Northwood arrives in Q4 of this year... and K8 shows up Q3 next year at the earliest... it looks like you're projecting AMD will be out of the game for at least 9 months...
