Well a few things don't sound right there.

Again: go to Tools > Convert. There you will see two sections: one for source and one for destination.

In the source section: in file type, click Excel. Then browse to the location of your excel file and select the file and click open.
To the right you will see "Options". Plug in a date range. Switch to the "Destination" tab. Click "Replace Existing File" under "If File Exists" and "create New Files. and to the right, select the fields you wish to import. Click OK.

In the destination section: In files of type, click MS. And browse to the folder you wish to have the data stored in. Click OK (On this dialog box, not on The Downloader program (although you should not have time to click on the Downloader program before it begins to convert." You should get a report of what has been converted. Click ok, and click out of the Downloader.

The file should be in your destination folder. You should be able to use the data in a chart...but don't ask me how as I have not done this this way.
