About three-four years or so ago I was on a long flight somewhere and I got talking to this guy while waiting for the restroom to get free. He said he was an auto industry consultant and he helped forecast trends in the industry. I had just seen the Toyota hybrid demo the night before on TV (68 mpg), so I was excited about it. So I asked him what kind of autos he saw in our future, any hybrids? The guy looked at me with a look of total disgust. He said, "Nope, big SUVs, the bigger the better....hybrids aren't going anywhere with gas under a buck". His statement only goes to prove that when you predict the future the best you can hope to be is right temporarily.
