Ibexx, OPTera Connect HDX optical switch scheduled for market in 4Q 2001. Working together on High Capacity Optical Networks In March 2000, Nortel Networks began holding sessions with customers to discuss the design of the upcoming OPTera Connect HDX optical switch, the next generation Optical Internet. Using an installability assessment exercise, Nortel Networks designers and customer experts worked together to validate product feature content and installation procedures, and test the hardware design in the lab. They will continue to work together to test the software functionalities with lab and field trials in 2Q and 3Q 2001. Customers indicated they were pleased at being able to influence the design early enough for Nortel Networks to provide a product that better met their needs. The process allowed them to improve their familiarity with the product, and begin planning ahead for space, power, and air conditioning requirements for when the product becomes a reality in 4Q 2001. nortelnetworks.com
